Words we use

The words of PDFjet Forms, and what each one means here.

What you make

Document
Any PDF you make: a letter, an invoice, a label, or a form, a document with fields.
Form
A PDF with fields that people fill in.
Field
A place on a form where people type, choose an option, check a box or sign.
Template
A ready-made document or form to start from.

In the editor

Component
One thing on the page: a text, a table, an image, a QR code, a field, a line, a box, a space or a page break.
Row and column
The page is a grid. Each row goes across the page and holds one or more columns side by side; each column holds components.
Header and footer
Rows at the top and at the bottom of every page, such as a title or a page number.
Points
The unit of every size, width and height in the editor: 72 points are 1 inch, or 25.4 mm.
Description
Words that say what an image shows, which a screen reader reads aloud. Also called alt text.

Saving and filling in

Save
Write the PDF to your computer. The PDF also keeps everything the editor needs to open it again.
Open
Load a PDF made here into the editor, to change it or to fill it in. A PDF made elsewhere, by a word processor or another program, does not open here: change it with your PDF editor.
Fill in
Type the answers into the fields of a form, then save the filled PDF.
Response
A form that someone filled in and sent back to you.
Changed copy
A form someone changed before filling it in, such as a label reworded. Any change to a form but its answers makes it a new form, so Collect responses sets the copy apart from the answers to yours and says what was changed.
Collect responses
Read many filled PDFs of one form into one table, which you can save as a CSV file, a file that a spreadsheet opens.

Plans and keys

Free version
Everything the editor does, free. What you make with it has a small line at the bottom: on each page of a form, on the first page of other documents.
PDFjet Forms Plus
The paid plan. Forms and documents made with it have no line of the free version.
Key
A code that turns on PDFjet Forms Plus in a browser. We email it to you when you buy. Also called a license key.
Key file
The file private-key.json, which opens the answers of your forms that encrypt their answers. It is saved when your key is made: keep it with your forms, and a second copy of it. Not the same as the key of PDFjet Forms Plus.
Invite link
A web address that holds the key. Anyone who opens it has PDFjet Forms Plus in that browser: share it with your team.

Accessible and lasting PDFs

Screen reader
Software that reads the screen aloud, for people who are blind or cannot see well.
Accessible PDF (PDF/UA)
A PDF that a screen reader can read in the right order, with its headings, tables and fields named.
PDF for long-term storage (PDF/A)
A PDF made to open and look the same for many years.
